I have to say that I’m extremely impressed with the Presto 07046. They’ve went out of their way to make something that is exceptionally easy to clean. All you need to do is take the drip tray out and empty it. After that, unhook the controls and toss the whole thing into the dishwasher! That’s what I call ease of use.

Aside from that they’ve also made an extremely good griddle. It’s got a 1500 watt element and it’s huge 24 inch by 18.5 inch cooking surface means that you can cook for a lot of people if need be.

This is absolutely the perfect grill for a single person (or in your dorm room). Unlike some other grills that are this size you don’t have to worry about it not getting hot enough as the reviews have stated that it gets plenty hot. With the double non-stick coating it’s also extremely easy to clean. All you need to do is let it cool down a bit, wet a paper towel, stick it in the grill and close it for a few minutes and wipe clean.

Although the Black & Decker G48TD is primarily for making waffles it’s also extremely good at making hot sandwiches like grilled cheese. The plates are multi-purpose witch waffle patterns on one side and flat on the other.

One of the nicest parts about this appliance is the fact that it’s easy to clean. All that you need to do is pop the plates out, stick them in the dish washer and give the unit itself a quick wipe down. The cord wraps up nicely and you can just put it away.

Unlike some other grillers in this price range the Black & Decker G48TD also has temperature controls with the settings being Low, Medium and High which gives you a lot more control over the cooking process.

I’ll mention right now that this is a VERY hot waffle maker. They make the plastic ones to be “cool touch”. I’ll trade the cool touch feature for the sturdier design of this versatile machine. I’m being careful and haven’t burned myself yet. But it’s something to consider if you’d like your children making waffles. My ten year old could be careful enough, but I keep my five and eight year olds away.

The waffles this machine makes are great! They freeze well too. The family is very happy. When the light goes of the unit is ready to make waffles. Pour in the batter and the light comes on again–wait for it to go off and the waffle is done (however, I usually go on instinct and sometimes pull out the waffle before the light goes off.)

The open grill feature makes wonderful pancakes and fried eggs. I have a big family and it’s nice to have two pancakes cook at a shot without taking up all my stovetop! I can have bacon and eggs on the stove and the pancakes on the waffle maker. (I can also have a heart attack if I keep eating all these bacon and eggs!)

The sandwich feature is nice. I can cook two grilled cheese sandwiches at one time getting me out of the kitchen quicker. Some advice–cheese might drip out the side of the sandwich. Just keep the sandwich away from the back of the unit where the cables run in and the mess just wipes off–no problem. The sandwiches cook far more uniformly than they do in a pan on the stove. They taste great.

This unit cleans up easily and changing the grills from waffle to flat is easy. I recommend it over a lot of more costly models if you want more value for your money. This is the most versatile waffle maker I’ve found and all the features actually work!”

You have to admit that for a boxer George Foreman has put his name on some pretty amazing grills. The newest GRP90WGR is an evolution of the George Foreman grill that functions just like the ones you’ve seen in the past, but it also sports FIVE interchangeable plates that you can use to make a ton of different things.

There are three different temperature settings: Low, Medium and High and the George Tough triple coated scratch resistant non stick coating means that nothing is going to stick to it either.

What are people saying?

John from over at Amazon has this to say: “Some people seem to have had problems with the “Next Grilleration” Foreman electric grill. I haven’t.

The removable plates are a HUGE plus: simply snap them out, wipe off the grease with a paper towel, rinse the plates off (removing any cooked-on crust with a plastic scrubber), and into the dishwasher they go. The previous Foreman grill I used always bothered me, because cleaning it seemed an iffy–and potentially unsanitary–proposition.

I’ve also had no problems cooking thicker cuts of meat perfectly. HELLO! Just turn your (e.g.) steak around (so that what WAS the front side now faces the hinge) half-way through the grilling time. If you don’t have time to do that, you don’t have time to cook in the first place. If you can’t remember to do that, you should stay out of the kitchen, because you could hurt yourself.

One word of advice: ANY grill of this sort works best with boneless cuts of meat, simply because bone and meat shrink at VERY different rates when heated. (DUH!)

I haven’t tried to cook waffles on it. I use a waffle iron for that task. But the new Foreman grill makes GREAT grilled cheese sandwiches.

I LIKE the control of temperature on this model; the older models were either full blast or nothin’. With this one, you can experiment and find your personal ideal grilling temperature. It’s pretty clear that grilling a hunk of meat is best accomplished at a higher temperature than making a grilled cheese sandwich (though you’re welcome to your own conclusions).

In short, this seems to me to be a well-planned, well-built, and very useful kitchen gadget. It’s also cheaper than some alternatives folks have suggested. It grills quickly and well. It even LOOKS nice sitting on the counter.”

I eventually found many uses for this little electric grill. As mentioned in the editorial review above, this grill is useful for batter based foods as well as for making sandwiches. Because we prefer hot cake, I have found it very useful for making small snack cakes. Using a standard cake mix with ordinary preparation, the bottom half of the griddle can be filled with batter. The batter will expand to fill the top as it cooks. The additional batter can be refrigerated for use the next day. The same is true of corn bread, pancake mix, browny mix, etc. The best part is the fact that the cakes will cook in just a few minutes. Pre-heating takes only 3-5 mins, and cooking about 4-8 depending on what you are working with, considerable less than the time to bake in a full size oven. This unit is also a welcome addition to the arsenal when battling toddler pickyness. Small portions of various items can be quickly prepared with out heating a full size oven. Although this grill has an easy to clean non-stick surface, I found it useful to wipe with an oiled cloth prior to cooking, PAM or a similar product would also work well. The effort I save putting together quick healthy lunches and snacks using this device, I have transfered to planning and preparing more elaborate meals in the evening, or entertaining.”

If you’re looking for a low cost hot sandwich maker than this is a pretty choice. It’s easy to use and works well for what it’s suppose to do. It’s pretty easy to clean with the non stick plates and with proper care it should last you a long time.

I have to admit that I’m a little bit puzzled as to why there aren’t more panini presses that have flat grills. More expensive ones with reversible plates do, but standard ones all seem to go with ridged plates which burns sandwiches. It’s nice to see that IMUSA has finally made one that has a flat cooking surface.

How hot does it get?

Unfortunately this panini press doesn’t have temperature controls, but since it’s only used for toasting sandwiches that’s not really a big deal.

Although manufacturers don’t usually publish this information a reviewer was kind enough to actually take the time and take the measurements.

The top plate gets to 375 degrees fahrenheit and the bottom plate reaches 350 degrees fahrenheit.

What about cleaning?

Although the plates on this particular press are not removable since it doesn’t have ridges it’s actually much easier to clean. As soon as it’s cool enough to touch you can just give it a wipe off and it will be clean (you’ve got to love those non-stick surfaces).

The top plate was a little loose and would not lock in place as tightly as it should, but after removing the attachment hook on the back of the top plate (one small philips head screw) and bending it slightly with some pliers, it now is securly attached until your push the release button.”
